Studio Curves (Shanghai / New York) is an experimental, independent design practice founded by John Dai in 2020.

We design spaces that are sculptural, adaptive, and emotionally precise—ranging from retail interiors and cultural venues to exhibitions, installations, and private comissions.

We combine advanced digital tools—parametric modeling, AI-driven workflows, digital fabrication—with a hands-on sensitivity to material, craft, and atmosphere.

From concept through construction, we work closely with clients, contractors, fabricators and craftsmen to shape spaces that feel both considered and alive.

Beyond architecture, we engage with visual identity, spatial branding, and narrative media to create immersive environments t

hat resonate across scales.

Vital architecture emerges not from spectacle or cost, but from the synthesis of digital technique and vernacular craft — where technology meets the hand, and the future speaks through tradition.

We take a collaborative approach to every project, working closely with our clients to understand their goals and vision. From the initial design concept to the final construction phase, we are committed to delivering exceptional service and quality craftsmanship.

John Dai, AIA
Founder, Studio Curves

John Dai is a licensed architect based in New York. He holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated with distinction and received the Faculty Prize. His design work balances digital systems with material sensibility, exploring how stories and structures shape space.

As a project architect at Weiss/Manfredi, John has led key aspects of major cultural projects, including the La Brea Tar Pits redevelopment in Los Angeles and the Nelson-Atkins Museum expansion. He has also held design roles at UNStudio (Amsterdam) and HOK (Philadelphia), working across global retail, housing, and urban-scale planning. Alongside large-scale work, he has completed a number of interior projects across China, recognized for their sculptural clarity, craftsmanship, and narrative depth.
